The great outdoors

This week our centre has come alive with the great outdoors.

Children have been outside enjoying dramatic play, exploring, crafts and other nature activities.

The Bilbies have taken part in a nature walk in our yard, collecting pieces of nature for a special collage. The pictures tell the story.

Tips for settling in to ‘big girl or boy school’

Starting big school can be both exciting and daunting for your child. To help make this transition as smooth as possible I have the following tips for families:

- Talk to your child about what happens at school and how the basic routine works. Most schools provide a Prep information booklet that will contain vital information about bell times, play times and what to do when you arrive at school. The more your child is prepared the easier their first day will be.

- Read the school rules together. The more interest you stir up the more response you will get from your child. Basic school rules can be easy to remember and simple to understand.

-If possible visit the school more than once to allow your child to familiarise themselves with their new surroundings. Have a look at the classrooms, toilets and playground so that on their first day these facilities will not seem so daunting for them.

-Be organised. The more organised your family is the easier your first day at school will be for you and your child. Think ahead and plan your child’s lunches for the week, ensuring that the lunch packed is familiar to your child with no surprises! Ensure that all your child’s belongings are labeled, packed and ready to go the night before.

- Be as enthusiastic and supportive as you can about your child starting big school. Your child will pick up on any anxiety that you may feel so being positive and encouraging will transfer to your child and help to make them feel more comfortable about this time.

You can find more information on starting school at The Raising Children Network.

Carnival with Active Kids

This week our little Active Kids from Coomera Clubhouse had their first sports carnival.
The children all had a wonderful time whilst getting that all important exercise outdoors.

Running races, egg & spoon races, sack races and more kept the children giggling and active!

Active Kids is a 30 minute specialised sports and physical education class especially designed for the pre prep child and to prepare them for school. The children love it and it is a great way to incorporate a variety of different sports and skills into their week at kindy.

a day for daniel

Next Friday the 28th of October, our Bilbies educator Ellie has organised for Coomera Clubhouse families, educators and children to all dress in red to raise money for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.
The Daniel Morcombe Foundation was established in 2005 by Denise and Bruce Morcombe following the tragic abduction and suspected murder of their 13 year old son Daniel in December 2003.
The foundation aims to create awareness with this day in its goal of making the world a safer place for children. involving schools and local communities. In 2011 up to 500,000 school aged children are expected to participate on a local level, this year Coomera Clubhouse is excited to be involved and help support the important cause.

So on Friday October 18 make sure you wear red and make a donation to your local school, child care centre or organisation.

Wombats go camping…

The Preschoolers have been on an adventure, deep into bushland with nothing but a backpack, sleeping bag, tent and a few neccessities. They built a campfire, bush oven and pitched a tent in the wilderness of the Wombat Room!

The children also made damper!

everyday hero!

A great family friend of the Coomera Clubhouse is going to run her heart out this weekend in the annual Sun Herald ‘City2Surf’ marathon in Sydney.

Bianca will be running to raise money for the Oncology Children’s Foundation-

The Oncology Children’s Foundation (OCF) is an Australian charity dedicated to finding cures for childhood cancers with the lowest survival rates such as Brain Tumours and Neuroblastoma. Almost half of children with these types of cancer lose their battle. This is an outcome that OCF is determined to improve by funding some of Australia’s best childhood cancer researchers. Read more about the Foundation -here-
This is a great cause and Coomera Clubhouse will be proud to sponsor Bianca in her great effort to reach her fundraising target of $500.

Best of luck Bianca & great work!
